Octavia Green Psychotherapy

Psychotherapy & Addiction Counselling in Cheltenham, Gloucestershire and Online

Hello, I'm Octavia

Dip Psych Couns. Reg MBACP.

I am a psychodynamic counsellor, psychotherapist, and addiction counsellor, registered with the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (MBACP). I came to this work after a storied life in London’s music industry, bringing both lived experience and clinical training.

I offer a warm, thoughtful and non-judgemental space where we can begin to explore what feels overwhelming or difficult to put into words. I work with addiction, trauma, anxiety, complex emotional experiences, neurodiversity, and life transitions.

My Approach

Clients often come to therapy feeling overwhelmed, and may also be navigating neurodiversity, trauma, or complex emotional and psychological experiences.

In our work together, we go on a journey of discovery and exploration, creating space for what may feel unspoken or difficult to reach. Building connection is central to the process, so that you can begin to feel safe enough to trust that I can hold and withstand what may sometimes feel like stormy experiences.

Once a therapeutic alliance is established, we begin to slow things down and explore your experience in more depth, paying attention to thoughts, emotions, and how feelings are experienced in the body. I can help you make links between past and present patterns as a way of understanding what belongs to the “there and then” and what belongs to the “here and now”.

It is not uncommon for essential defenses to have been built in the past that may no longer serve you in your present life.

My aim is to help you find a voice, bring more clarity to what feels overwhelming, and begin to understand different aspects of your experience. This can ease feelings of overwhelm, support emotional stability, and strengthen your ability to advocate for yourself as you move towards a greater sense of peace and equilibrium.

Addiction and Recovery

Addiction is a central part of my practice, and I am an experienced addiction counsellor.

I work with people at all stages of addiction, including those in active use, those beginning to question their relationship with substances or behaviours, and those in recovery.

My approach is grounded in honesty and a clear understanding of where a person is in their process. This allows us to think together about what support may be needed, which may include detox, treatment, rehabilitation care, or ongoing weekly therapy.

My work is trauma-informed, and client wellbeing and safety are always at the heart of what I do. I have specialist training in Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), which I integrate into my work to support emotional regulation, resilience, and the development of healthier coping strategies.

I also support clients in developing greater awareness of grounding and stabilisation techniques where helpful, and may encourage the use of additional body-based or somatic approaches outside of therapy if appropriate and beneficial.

As a certified Mental Health First Aider, I support people in crisis, particularly in relation to substance use and addiction. Through my involvement in the global Network for Women in Mental Health and Addiction, I stay connected to current thinking and practice, drawing on a wider community of clinicians, rehabilitation centres, and recovery professionals to inform and support my work.
